Table saw

Disk Sander
- Always wear your safety glasses.
- NO daydreaming, loud noises or horseplay
- Don’t talk to machine operator.
- Clean up spills immediately with sawdust.
- Keep your work area clean.
- Unplug cord by the plug.
- Don’t throw anything in the shop.
- Use air hose for shoulders on down.
- Let machine come to full speed before operating.
- NO loose clothing, long hair, or jewelry in shop.
- Let machine come to full stop before changing set up or leaving.
- Keep all your blades, knives, and bits sharp.
- When working on moving parts always disconnect the power.
- Report all accidents to the teacher immediately
- Keep your hands 4 inches from blade.
- Keep material tight against fence.
- When you are done with the cut, push saw back to the column.
- Never cut more than one board at a time.
- Make sure the guard is on and operating.
- If the saw binds, turn it off to unbind it.
- The saw tends to feed itself; you must hold it back.
- Board must be 14” long or longer to run though the planer.
- Stand to the left when possible.
- In most cases, take only a 1/16” cut at a time (one complete turn.)
- Never look into the planer when it is running.
- If the board stops feeding, turn it off.
- Don’t put your fingers under short boards.
- Check for knots, nails and imperfection (check with teacher).
- A board must be 12” long.
- When within 4” of the knives, use a push stick.
- Stand to the left of the infeed table and behind the guard.
- Always use the guard.
- Never put direct pressure over the knives on thin stock.
- Never take more than 1/16” cut
- Check for knots, nails and imperfections (if so, check with teacher)
Table saw
- A board must be 8” long to use the fence.
- The blade should extend 1/4” above your work.
- When within 4” of the blade, use a push stick.
- Never use the fence and the miter gauge together.
- Never cut freehand.
- Stand to the left of the fence when operating.
- Never pull board back through.
- Look at the fence 75% of the time and the blade 25% of the time.
- When using the miter gauge, the board must cover half of it.
- Always use the splitter.
- Don’t saw warped material.
- Keep your hand 4” from blade.
- Keep the guard ¼” above your material.
- Stand in front of the blade to operate.
- When cutting round stock, use a V-block.
- If the blade breaks, turn it off, get teacher, never open door.
- To make relief cuts when needed.
Drill Press
- Stand in front to operate
- Make sure chuck key is out of chuck before turning on.
- Clamp all material 8” or less.
- Always use V-block when drilling round stock.
- If work slips never try to stop it by hand, TURN IT OFF.
- Don’t force the bit.
- Back out if hole frequently.
- Disconnect the power before changing the bit.
- Make sure switch is turned off before connecting power.
- Hold router tightly, both hands, when starting the motor.
- Clamp the bit securely in the collet.
- Check path of router to make sure nothing is in the path
- Always feed the router against rotation of the unit.
- When done with the cut, wait for the router to stop, then lay the router down pointing away from you
Lathe
- Make all the adjustments with the power off.
- Keep the tool rest as close as possible to the work.
- Always start at a slow speed, your faster speeds are for finishing and sanding.
- No loose clothing, long hair, jewelry.
- Check your wood for defects and good glue joints.
- When your wood is starting out, turn your wood through by hand.
- The tool should be pointed up with the handle down.
- Hold the tool with two hands.
- Always wear a face shield.
- Make sure the tail stock and tool rest clamp is on securely.
Disk Sander
- Keep your fingers 4 inches away from abrasive.
- Stand in front to operate.
- Sand on the downward stroke.
- Keep your fingers 4 inches away from abrasive.
- Sand against the rotation of the spindle
- Use the smallest throat plate possible.
